T-Mail is built so that you don’t have to share personal information. This page explains what we store, for how long and why.
Data we store
| Data | Purpose | Retention |
|---|---|---|
| Emails sent to your temporary address | Displaying them to you | 24 hours, then permanently deleted |
| Temporary email address | Receiving emails and preventing others from reusing your exact address | Until it has been unused for a long time |
| Recovery code (one-way hash) | Letting you reopen your inbox | Same as the address |
| IP address | Preventing abuse and rate limiting | In temporary memory only, not stored long term |
Data we don’t collect
- No registration: we never ask for your name, phone number or date of birth.
- We never sell or share email content with third parties.
- We don’t know your original recovery code.
Data stored in your browser
The list of addresses you have used, their recovery codes and your language choice are stored in your browser (localStorage) so you can reopen them quickly. This data is never sent to anyone else. Clearing your browser data deletes this list.
Security
Connections to the website are encrypted. Email content is displayed in an isolated frame on a separate domain so that malicious code in an email can’t reach your browser. Anyone with the recovery code can read the inbox, so don’t share your code.
